Michael Stanislawski is the Nathan J. Miller Professor of Jewish History at Columbia University. His latest book, Zionism and the Fin de Siécle will be published soon by the University of California Press. He is also the author of three books on the history of the Jews of Russia: Tsar Nicholas I and the Jews, For Whom do I Toil? and Psalms for the Tsar.
